The number of EdTech projects in Kazakhstan is increasing: digital education is actively developing across the region
The number of educational technology (EdTech) projects in Kazakhstan continues to grow. Over the past two years, the online education market has become noticeably more active: new distance learning platforms, mobile apps for schools and universities, and services for training IT specialists are emerging.
According to industry research, the online education market in Kazakhstan is showing steady growth and is gradually going beyond local educational services, focusing on the international market. Digital learning platforms are increasingly used not only by private schools and education centers, but also by the corporate sector for staff training and professional development. The country’s EdTech market was previously estimated at almost 95 billion tenge, which confirms the high demand for digital educational solutions.
The development of this area is also supported by government initiatives. Kazakhstani educational projects are increasingly participating in international technology exhibitions and education forums, showcasing their own developments in online learning, digital platforms and interactive educational solutions.
EdTech growth is seen across the CIS
Similar processes are taking place in neighboring countries of the region.
In Russia, the online education market remains one of the largest in Eastern Europe. Despite the slowdown in the rapid growth of recent years, the industry continues to expand: the EdTech market exceeded 150 billion rubles in 2025, and digital educational platforms are gradually shifting from mass courses to more applied professional training programs.
In Ukraine, the development of educational technologies is largely linked to remote learning and the need to maintain access to education online. Universities and private schools are actively implementing cloud-based LMS systems and remote learning environments.
In Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, EdTech is developing through private initiatives — IT schools, programming for children and digital skills platforms. International educational franchises and local startups are opening new learning centers focused on training future developers and digital economy specialists.
Why EdTech is becoming one of the key IT areas
Experts note that educational technology is gradually turning into an independent segment of the IT industry. The global EdTech market is already estimated at about 185 billion dollars and continues to grow thanks to demand for online learning, reskilling and the development of digital skills.
The main feature of the new stage of development is the transition from ordinary online courses to full-fledged digital educational ecosystems. Modern platforms include student progress analytics, personalized learning programs, mobile apps and integrations with companies’ corporate systems.
EdTech as the new digital infrastructure of education
Today, EdTech already goes beyond classic online learning. Educational services are becoming part of the economy: companies train employees on their own platforms, schools use digital gradebooks and apps, and users get access to learning regardless of where they live.
In effect, educational technology is turning into infrastructure for training talent for the IT market. It is through EdTech that more and more people enter the professions of developers, designers, data analysts and digital product specialists.
Amid the shortage of IT talent in the region, the development of EdTech projects is seen as one of the key factors in shaping the future digital economy of Central Asia.
