Task
To create a tool that would replace Excel and manual calculations when preparing estimates and logistics plans. To make it possible for a foreman to put together a preliminary estimate in 10–15 minutes and get a list of the necessary materials, taking into account coefficients and technical standards.
Project features
A library of construction works with material consumption standards
Automatic generation of estimates from templates
Accounting for delivery, machinery loading and seasonal coefficients
Flexible configuration of the cost of works and materials
Generation of PDF reports and commercial proposals
A mobile version for foremen on site
Work stages
Analytics
Dozens of estimates from construction companies of various sizes were analyzed. The main types of work, calculation standards, seasonal specifics and typical errors were identified. The foremen’s wishes were taken into account: minimal “clickable” interaction, everything in 2-3 steps.
Design
The interface was developed with an emphasis on speed of input. An “Express estimate” mode and a detailed calculation mode are provided. The color scheme is neutral, for working in daylight on a construction site.
Development and testing
The web application is implemented on Angular + Laravel. It was tested with the participation of 5 small construction crews in a pilot region. Special attention was paid to offline access with subsequent synchronization when the network becomes available.
Results
Time to prepare a basic estimate reduced from 1.5 hours to 12-15 minutes
Improved accuracy in procurement planning thanks to built-in standards and rounding
Increased client trust thanks to the transparency and clarity of commercial proposals
The application was adopted by 11 construction crews in the first month after launch
Client review
“BuildCalc is now on every foreman’s phone. We stopped losing money due to miscalculations, and clients began to see what they are paying for. A simple and powerful tool for everyday work.”
