EV Charging App

About the project

A mobile app for electric vehicle drivers: it helps find a nearby charging station, choose a free connector and start charging right from the phone, with in-app payment.

The challenge

An EV driver needs to know in advance where the nearest station is, whether it's free and whether the connector fits their car. If all this only becomes clear on site, the trip turns into a lottery. We needed to design an app in which finding a station, choosing a charger and starting a session fit into a short, clear scenario.

Nearby stations

The core of the app is a map with a "Welcome" panel sliding out over it. It contains search with filters and a status legend: unavailable, occupied, available — each with its own icon color. Below are two lists: "Recent stations", to quickly return to familiar addresses, and "Nearest stations" with a counter showing how many there are. Each station has a name, address and distance. The map has buttons for layers, geolocation and QR code scanning.

Choosing a charger

The station page lists its chargers. Each one is a separate card with a number, a connector type icon, a name and power output, for example CCS 350 kW. When the card is expanded, the price per kWh is shown and a "Start charging" button appears. We made the cards large and high-contrast so the right connector is easy to find even outdoors.

Starting a charge

Starting is split into three steps, with progress shown at the top of the panel. In the first step, the app asks you to plug the cable into the car and tap "Activate". This is also where the session summary is gathered: station, date and time, address, total cost, connector type and payment method, for example Apple Pay. The user sees all the terms before charging begins. The remaining progress steps stay gray and become active as the session progresses, so the driver always understands which stage they're at and what they need to do next.

Result

We designed an app in which an EV driver completes the whole journey in one interface: finds the nearest available station, chooses a suitable connector, sees the cost and starts charging with payment from the phone.
