About the project
A mobile solitaire game: the classic layout with a stock pile, foundation piles and card columns, extended with daily challenges, a collection of deck designs and a player leaderboard. We designed the game interface: the game table, the challenge calendar, the card selection screen and the leaderboard.
The challenge
Everyone knows solitaire, so there are no rules to invent. The difficulty lies elsewhere: app stores have hundreds of similar games, and users stick with the one that is more pleasant to play and makes them want to come back. We had to create a calm, tidy interface that doesn't get in the way of the layout, and build mechanics around it that give people a reason to open the game tomorrow.
The visual foundation is a deep blue-green background reminiscent of card table felt and a single warm orange accent for the main actions. Every screen repeats the same top bar with three indicators and the same bottom menu, so the game feels like a single space.
Game table
At the top is a bar with the score, a timer and the number of coins. Below it are the foundation piles, where suits are collected, and the stock with a shuffle button. Empty spots are marked with semi-transparent silhouettes, so you can see where a card can go. The cards are large, with standard values in the corners, and are easy to tell apart on a small screen.
Below the layout are three buttons: undo, hint and one more game action. The hint is highlighted in orange and sits in the center, closer to the thumb: it's the most used button for players who are stuck.
Daily challenges
A separate tab holds a calendar with numbered days and a trophy at the top. Completed days are highlighted in orange, the rest wait their turn, and the Play button starts the layout for the selected day. A calendar like this gives a simple, clear goal: complete every day of the month and earn a reward.
Collection and leaderboard
The collection screen gathers card design options. At the top is a large preview of the selected design on several cards, at the bottom a grid of card backs. The selected option is marked with a check, locked ones with a padlock icon. The collection becomes another goal in the game besides the layouts themselves.
The leaderboard is split into three tabs: the whole world, your country and personal stats. Inside are "day", "week" and "month" periods, so even a newcomer can make it to the top of the ranking for today. First place is highlighted with an orange number, and the other rows use the calm brand color.
The result
We designed a solitaire game in which the classic gameplay is surrounded by clear goals: a calendar of daily challenges, a design collection and a leaderboard with different periods. All screens are united by shared navigation and one color scheme, while the layout itself stays at the center of the interface, free of unnecessary elements.
