Dry cleaning ordering app with delivery

About the project

A mobile app for ordering dry cleaning with courier delivery. The user chooses a dry cleaner from a list of providers, places an order and then tracks it step by step: the courier picks up the items, takes them to the dry cleaner and brings them back after cleaning. The app has a user account with bonuses and a small shop of care products. We designed the interface for these scenarios.

The challenge

Dry cleaning is a service where customers don't see their belongings for a long time. They hand them to a courier and for several days have no idea what's happening, so they call support with the same question: "where is my order?" We had to make the process transparent: give a choice of whom to trust with the items and show what stage each order is at, without calls or messaging.

Choosing a dry cleaner

The app works with several service providers, so an order starts with choosing a dry cleaner. Providers are shown in a horizontal carousel of large cards with the logo, name and rating, and the selected card is highlighted with a border. Above the carousel are search by name and a promo banner with the service's benefits: time savings, a discount if the order is delayed, and cleaning that is "fast, high-quality and done right". The choice is confirmed with a button at the bottom of the screen.

Order tracking

The main screen for returning customers is "My orders". Each card has a five-step progress bar, the order number, the dry cleaner's name, the pickup time and a text status: "Courier on the way", "Delivered to the dry cleaner", "Order in progress", "Waiting for the courier". Completed steps are filled in, so even without reading the status the customer sees how much of the journey is already behind them.

The actions on the card change with the status. While the courier is on the way to pick up the items, the order can be cancelled; after that a "Details" button becomes available. Completed orders are shown without the progress bar, with the return date. The list can be filtered by status using the "Show" field.

User account and shop

The user account has a profile with a photo and an edit button, settings and a points counter in the header. Below are the same promo block with benefits and a "Shop" section with clothing care products, such as stain removers, with a price and a link to the product card. The shop complements the main service: the customer can buy a home care product in the same place where they order dry cleaning.

The result

We designed an app in which the customer can see the entire order journey: from choosing a dry cleaner by rating to getting the items back. The step-by-step status bar answers the customer's main question without contacting support, and the user account with points and a shop gives a reason to come back to the app between orders.
