About the project
revpn is a VPN service for which we designed the client app interface. The core job of such a product is to give the user a secure connection through a server in another country, and everything needed for that has to fit on a single screen.
The challenge
VPN apps are often cluttered with settings, protocols and ads, even though most users need just two actions: choose a country and turn the connection on. We had to build an interface where these two actions are obvious, while the extra information — server load, the new IP address, subscription term — stays visible but out of the way.
One screen for everything
The window is split into two parts. On the left is the server list with country flags and load percentages. Load gets its own column so users can pick a less busy server themselves, and the active server is marked with a blue bar along the edge of the list.
On the right is the connection state: a large flag of the selected country, a big toggle and a “New IP” line beneath it that immediately shows the connection is up and traffic is going through a different address. At the top are the remaining subscription days and a menu with the rest of the settings.
Result
The result is a minimal client where connecting takes two actions: pick a server from the list and hit the toggle. Server load, the new IP and the subscription term are visible right away without opening settings, and everything else is tucked into the menu so it doesn't distract from the main task.
