About the project
SYNTEX is an international company that started out in Bolivia as a bitumen producer and today supplies bitumen and bitumen products, coal and coke, fertilizers and decking, and also distributes fuel. We designed its corporate website in English and Spanish.
The challenge
The SYNTEX website is read primarily by professionals: road contractors, procurement specialists and partners from different countries. They need to quickly find a specific product, understand what it is for and get its technical specifications. At the same time, the company has several very different business lines and offices in different countries, and all of this had to fit into a clear structure without turning the site into an endless catalog.
Navigation and the home page
We dropped the horizontal menu in favor of a persistent side panel with three expandable sections: “About company”, “Products” and “Countries”. Each contains nested items, and the current page is highlighted in the brand orange. This way visitors always see where they are and can move to a neighboring section without going back to the home page. The EN / ES language switcher and the logo sit in the top right corner of every page.
The “Our company” page opens with a photo slider, followed by the company's history and its business lines as tags: Bitumen, Bitumen products, Decking, Chemical fertilizers, Coal and coke, as well as diesel and gasoline distribution. The tags work as a short map of everything SYNTEX does.
Products
Product pages are grouped by what the materials are used for rather than by the company's internal names. For example, “Material in road construction” covers bitumen for road building. Every product is presented the same way: a large photo, a name and a short description of what makes it valuable. For standard bitumen that's water resistance, durability and low cost; for polymer-modified bitumen, better performance characteristics.
What matters most to a professional audience is technical documentation. We placed it in separate cards with a PDF icon next to the description: grades 50/70, 60/90, 70/100, 85/100, 90/130 and 160/220 for standard bitumen, Type 1 and PG 76-28 for modified. The required specification downloads in one tap, without searching through a documents section.
The same template works for completely different products too. The “Materials used as a fuel” page features anthracite coal and petroleum coke with a description of their properties and applications. A unified page structure lets the company add new products without inventing a new layout each time.
News and media
In the “Media” section, the company covers its news and participation in industry events. A news page consists of a date, a headline, text and a photo gallery: one large photo with a grid of thumbnails next to it. The “Back” button above the article returns users to the list of publications.
The result
We designed a bilingual corporate website in which several different business lines coexist within one clear structure. The side navigation gives access to any section from any page, product pages are built on a single template, and technical specifications are available right next to the description of each material.
