About the project
Truth or Dare is a mobile version of the classic party game for a group of friends. Players gather around a single phone and take turns answering questions or completing dares, while the app runs the round: it remembers who is playing, explains the rules and wraps things up at the end.
The challenge
Everyone already knows the game, and it works perfectly well without any app. So the value of the product lies not in the mechanics but in the mood: the interface had to feel light and fun and never get in the way of the conversation. Our job was to design a short path from launch to the first question and a visual style that sticks in the memory and stands apart from typical “party” games.
Style and first impression
The app opens with a loading screen featuring a large TRUTH OR DARE logo on a black background with a 3D grid. Holographic stickers, eyes, smileys and round avatars of people are scattered around it, so the screen immediately tells you this is a game about friends and emotions. At the bottom, a progress bar with percentages makes sure the wait never looks like a freeze.
The same set of stickers appears again on the rules screen. The rule itself fits into a single paragraph: everyone takes turns answering questions or doing dares, and the level of the questions and the difficulty of the tasks are set in advance. At the top there is a “Share” button, and at the bottom a bright green “Let’s go play” button that takes you straight into the game.
Gathering the group
Before starting, you need to add the participants. The “Add players” screen is a list of cards: each player has a name field and a spot for a photo. The first participant is marked as Admin — the person holding the phone and running the round — and can be removed with a red trash icon. The “New player” button adds the next row, and “Let’s go play” at the bottom starts the game once everyone is in.
The mockups also include a chat screen with a player: a dark conversation view with the other person’s avatar and name, purple bubbles for outgoing messages and a camera button next to the input field. It carries on the app’s overall aesthetic — black background, rounded panels and a monospaced font in the headings.
End of the round
When the game ends, a “Game over” card appears on top of the board with the caption “Friendship has won!” — there are no losers here, the group wins. Below it are the actions that make sense at that moment: share the app, rate it, exit, or start over right away with the “Play again” button.
Result
We designed a compact game with a clear flow: loading, rules, player list, the round itself and the finale. The recognizable style with holographic stickers and a black grid holds across every screen, and the key action at each step is placed in a single large button — you can play without having to figure out the interface.
